How to install Noctune on Android TV
Updated 26 October 2026
The first public release isn't available yet. These steps apply as soon as it's published on the download page.
Before you start
- An Android TV or Google TV device (TV, box or stick) running Android 8.0 or later. You can check under Settings → Device Preferences → About (or Settings → System → About).
- An internet connection on the TV.
- An Xtream Codes playlist from your IPTV provider (server address, username and password) for the setup after installing. Noctune doesn't include channels.
Noctune was tested during development on a Sony BRAVIA running Android 9 and on the Android TV emulator. Android TV devices from other brands use the same system, but menu names can differ slightly.
1. Install a downloader on the TV
Open the Google Play Store on the TV and install a downloader or file manager app that can open web addresses and APK files.
2. Allow that app to install apps
Android blocks app installs from outside Google Play until you allow them for a specific app:
- Open Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources. On some TVs it's under Settings → Device Preferences → Security & restrictions.
- Turn it on for the downloader app only.
On some Google TV devices the option only appears after turning on developer options: open Settings → System → About, select Android TV OS build seven times, then go back to the step above.
3. Download Noctune
In the downloader, open noctuneapp.com/download and download the APK. Only download Noctune from noctuneapp.com.
4. Check the file (optional, recommended)
The download page lists each release's SHA-256 checksum. To confirm the file wasn't altered, download it on a computer too and compare: shasum -a 256 noctune.apk on macOS or Linux, certutil -hashfile noctune.apk SHA256 on Windows.
5. Install and open
- Open the downloaded file and choose Install.
- When it finishes, open Noctune from your apps.
- For extra safety, turn Unknown sources off again for the downloader.
Next: add your Xtream Codes playlist.
Updating
Install a newer version over the existing one; your playlists, profiles and settings stay. Android only installs an update when it's signed with the same key as the installed app, so a tampered copy can't replace a genuine install.
If it doesn't install
- "App not installed": a copy of Noctune signed with a different key is already installed (for example from another website). Uninstall it, then install the official file. This removes that copy's data on the TV.
- The file won't open: check that Unknown sources is on for the app you're opening it with.
- "There was a problem parsing the package": the download is incomplete, or the TV runs an Android version older than 8.0.
