Manage playlists, refresh and the programme guide
Updated 26 October 2026
The playlist card
Each playlist shows its name, server and account status (including the expiry date your provider reports), the number of channels, movies and TV shows, and when it was last refreshed successfully, last attempted and next due automatically. Problems are listed per content type.
Refreshing
- Refresh downloads the latest channel, movie and TV-show lists from your provider. After a failure the button says Retry.
- What you were watching keeps playing, and screens update in place when the refresh finishes.
- A failed refresh never empties your playlist. Each list only replaces the saved one after it downloaded completely; otherwise the previous list stays and the card says which part failed.
- Refreshes run one at a time. Pressing Refresh again while one is running joins it instead of starting another.
Automatic refresh
- Choose manual only, or every 6, 12 or 24 hours (24 is the default). Each playlist can override the global setting.
- Android decides the exact moment: it may wait while the TV sleeps, is offline or limits background work, and Noctune waits while something is playing. The card shows the next refresh as approximate.
- When Noctune opens, your saved content appears immediately; a refresh that's due starts shortly afterwards.
- After a failure, automatic refresh tries again after 30 minutes, then waits longer each time.
Disable or remove
- Disable hides a playlist from browsing, search and refresh. Its favourites, progress and settings are kept, and Enable brings it all back.
- Remove deletes the playlist's login, saved catalogue and search index, and its favourites, My List entries and progress in every profile. Noctune asks twice and says what it deletes.
Using more than one playlist
With several playlists enabled:
- Live TV, Movies, TV Shows and Search combine all enabled playlists. A Playlist filter above the categories narrows them to one.
- Category names, search results and details pages show which playlist an item comes from.
- Nothing is merged by name: every channel and title plays with its own playlist's login.
Noctune Free loads one playlist: the first enabled one. Others stay saved and are marked "Kept · needs Premium". To use a different playlist on Free, disable the first. Multiple playlists are part of Premium, which isn't on sale yet (pricing).
The programme guide (EPG)
- Guide data comes from your provider, through the same Xtream Codes account. Noctune doesn't add guide data of its own.
- It loads for the channels you're looking at and is kept for 10 minutes, so it stays current without downloading the whole guide.
- If a channel shows "No programme guide from the provider for this channel", your provider doesn't supply guide data for it.
- If you see "Guide didn't load" in the guide grid, or "The guide didn't load. It's tried again shortly." in the channel preview, the provider didn't answer in time. Noctune retries by itself.
- Press ← while watching live TV for the mini-guide with what's on now and next.
Tidying large playlists
Settings → Organise playlists lets you hide, show and favourite channels in bulk, check whether channels play, and restore anything hidden. Settings → Channel versions groups SD, HD and FHD copies of a channel once you confirm them. See also playback problems.
